The COVID pandemic is over, and the virus is now one of those that circulate through the population annually. There has always been doubt, to many, about the apparently spontaneous emergence of COVID-19 in a Chinese live market. Claiming that a Chinese virology lab was the origin of the coronavirus pandemic and that, as well, it was intentionally developed was deemed by most of the media to be some sort of racist right-wing conspiracy.
Believe what you will, but my feeling has always been that the virus was developed purposefully in the lab. For use as a biological weapon? Maybe so, maybe not. In any case, how did it get out? it was unlikely to have been intentionally released into the country’s own population; that would violate the purpose of biological warfare in general. It could be as simple as a lab employee selling some infected bat carcasses at the market for a little extra dough. Or, leaving the live market out of it, some incompetent worker just didn’t follow the right protocol for disposing of dead lab animals and caused some form of contamination. Just sayin’.
It appears that some U.S. federal agencies were aware of the intentional development of the virus that killed seven million people. Initially proposed as the “DEFUSE” project, it appears that the Wuhan Institute of Virology and some other entities wanted to “defuse” SARS-like coronaviruses by reverse-engineering new RNA viruses from bat vectors. Theoretically, a vaccine or antidote would be developed at the same time.
Pitching the idea along with the Wuhan lab was Dr. Anthony Fauci’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and an organization called Ecohealth Alliance. In 2021, a leak to the media by a group of online researchers claimed that, when it was clear that COVID-19 was suspiciously similar to the DEFUSE project’s new coronavirus, none of the involved parties came forward to warn the public that a highly transmissible virus was released into the environment.
Instead, they claimed, a cover-up was put into action. The agencies enlisted a scientist involved in the effort to write a paper called “Proximal Origins.” This document, commissioned by Dr. Fauci and operatives at the National Institute of Health, criticized anyone putting forth the notion that COVID-19 might have originated in the Wuhan lab.
Looking at this objectively, it seems that US agencies may have been working in tandem with the Wuhan Institute of Virology; If so, they were attempting to deflect blame for developing a dangerous virus in the lab and allowing its dispersal into the population. If we had known early enough that a virus purposefully adapted for human transmission was out there, many lives might have been saved worldwide with proper containment. Senator Rand Paul is conducting a further investigation into the nature of the US involvement.
If true, what should happen to those who withheld this information? Seven million life sentences comes to mind. Unfortunately, I doubt Dr. Fauci and his accomplices will ever suffer any consequences. COVID is no longer news; even now, many virologists believe COVID was a completely natural phenomenon. They would certainly deny any knowledge to the contrary.
Whatever your opinion, researchers should realize that developing new viruses has risks attached: Virologists aren’t all mad scientists, of course, but we need a watchdog. The next lab-developed virus could be a useful research tool, an accidental pandemic, or a biological weapon.
